"Piedra negra sobre una Piedra Blanca"

Música: Nilo Velarde
Poema: Cesar Vallejo
Director: Antonio Paz

The Texas Voices, Alan Dyer, Director
Recorded live at the Mesquite Arts Center, Texas.

"El Alabado de Margil" is extracted from a work commissioned by the First Lady of El Salvador, Dra. Vanda Pignato, for the 30th anniversary of the martyrdom of Mon. Oscar Romero. This piece celebrates Romero's connection to the intellectual tradition of the Church. The piece also has ties to Texas: it uses a melody composed in the 18th century by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesús, founder of the first missions in San Antonio.

Lyrics:

In Nomine Patris, et Fillii, et Spiritus Sancti.

Translation:

Blessed be the Sacrament through which
an Invisible God gives sustenance to souls.

And the Immaculate Conception of the Queen of Heaven,
Who, while remaining a Pure Virgin, is Mother of the Eternal Word(Logos).

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Text: Robert Browning

The Mayor sent East, West, North, and South,
To offer the Piper, by word of mouth,
Wherever it was men's lot to find him,
Silver and gold to his heart's content,
If he'd only return the way he went,
And bring the children behind him.

Browning Festival 2010 - If Thou Must Love Me by Ethan Williams

This piece is the winner of the 2010 edition of the Browning Composition Competition at Armstrong Browning Library, Baylor University.
The China Spring Select Voices Choir.

Susan Thrift, Director.
The composer is Ethan Williams, a senior composition major from Bryan, Texas.

If Thou Must Love Me - By Elizabeth B. Browning
If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
"I love her for her smile her look her way
Of speaking gently, for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of ease on such a day"
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee, and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheek dry,
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou may'st love on, through love's eternity.
